Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Isabel Wilkerson stopped by the during the Texas Book Festival to discuss one of the most important migrations of the 20th century:  the epic exodus of six million African-Americans fleeing the “caste system of the Jim Crow laws of the South” and settling in North and West.  Her celebrated and masterful book “The Warmth of Other Suns” details the challenge and triumph of this migration and how it changed the face of America. Mayor Bill White of Houston (A Conversation on Integrity in Governance)

Posted by: admin , under: Faith,Politics . Date: October 19th, 2009 , 3:08 pm

Is there room in the American political system for politicians of faith and religious beliefs to be the unifying force of an increasingly diverse population base in a fractured and highly divided political system?  Mayor Bill White of Houston thinks so!  Mayor White is widely respected as a man of deep integrity and faith and a competent and effective public servant.  He has twice been re-elected the Mayor Houston with margins of 86% and 91% and his compassionate response to Hurricane Katrina won him national recognition.  He joins me for a conversation on the role of faith in politics, the strength of diversity in decision making process, the importance of accountability and sound business practices in politics, and the imperative stewardship of the environment.
